History

Steeped in history, Inwood began as a resort along the Cumberland Valley Railroad extension of the late 1880s. When the post office opened in 1890, a village quickly developed and hosted an annual event called the Inwood Fair, which drew 7,000 to 12,000 visitors annually. Today, Inwood’s population of just over 2,000 boasts four locations on the National Register of Historic Places and the family-friendly Jay Dee’s Family Fun Center, an arcade with something for everyone.

The nearby Bunker Hill, with a population of over 5,000, also shares a place in American history. Founded by Colonel Morgan Morgan in 1726, Bunker Hill is the first permanent settlement in Western Virginia. Bunker Hill State Park includes a monument at his grave and Morgan’s restored cabin, which includes many of its original logs and a historically- furnished museum. With a total of six locations on the National Register of Historic Places, Bunker Hill is a virtual living museum to American history.

Recreation

Beyond historical significance, Inwood and Bunker Hill host a variety of annual social events. These events include the Christmas parade, which brings families out to share in the holiday celebrations. For those seeking even more excitement, Charles Town Races and Slots is less than 20 minutes away. Charles Town Races and Slots features the hottest new games, year-round thoroughbred racing, a variety of dining options, shopping and live entertainment.

Living

Inwood and Bunker Hill are great commuter locations to cities in Virginia and Maryland, but gladly lack the congestion problems of the metropolitan areas that are still close enough to visit with ease. The charmed life of Inwood and Bunker Hill are available to you, too.
