History

Harpers Ferry's history helps to define what it is today. Today, Harpers Ferry is probably best known for abolitionist John Brown's raid on the federal armory in 1859, considered a major influence on the beginning of the Civil War.

Harpers Ferry makes the most of its rich history as the entire town is part of the Harpers Ferry Historic District and as the location of the Harpers Ferry National Historic Park.
